Viewing the Web Page
By default, the converted Web page will open in Netscape Navigator as soon as the conversion is
complete. See the General options below to change this behavior. Another easy way to open a web
page is to drag and drop the file whose name ends with “.html” onto your favorite browser application.
To see your HTML document as text complete with HTML tags, open it with a text editor, word
processor, or HTML editor. Unlike other conversion programs and most visual HTML editors, GoClick
produces HTML source text which is reasonably easy to understand and edit. Adobe GoLive is by far
the easiest program for editing GoClick's HTML files, so it is highly recommended.
How Did it Do That?
Terry Morse GoClick uses its Wizzy-Web™ Technology to analyze the printed page of virtually any
document and create HTML that looks strikingly similar to the printed page.
GoClick’s default Wizzy-Web conversion settings are designed to produce the most accurate web page
from the greatest variety of documents, optimized for viewing on a version 4.x browser. While this is
exactly what most people want, GoClick’s options can be adjusted to produce highly customized
output. At the extreme, GoClick even can be configured to produce just unformatted text. This might
be useful if the text is to be flowed into an existing web page, for example.
A Note About HTML’s Limitations
HTML began as a very simplified format that provided almost no typographic control. While HTML 4
with Cascading Style Sheets provides much greater control over layout and text formatting, some types
of text formatting are still not supported. Some formats that are not supported are rotated text, text
stretched vertically or horizontally, and text kerning and tracking. GoClick uses its exclusive Wizzy-
Web ™ technology to make a best effort approximation of the original document’s format, which is
appropriate for most documents published on the Web. HTML simply cannot replicate the appearance
of a document created with all the features in a page layout tool, but Wizzy-Web technology can
almost always come very close (for tips on how to get the best conversion possible, please see Chapter
4). If you are interested in duplicating the layout of the printed page exactly, a more appropriate
solution is Adobe Acrobat.
