Some word processing programs also have some control over character spacing. Microsoft Word has a setting called "Character Spacing," available through the "Font..." command. Spacing should be set to Normal for best results.

Horizontal Text Scaling

Some applications can squish or stretch text by adjusting its horizontal scaling. Just like tracking and kerning, any horizontal scaling other than 100% causes trouble when converting text to HTML. For this reason, avoid using horizontal text scalingother than 100%.
